Wildly Crafted

Do I need planning permission?

Planning for Cabins
For residential properties you probably don’t need planning permission for a cabin, as long as you comply with either the Caravan Act or Permitted Development regulations which we have summarised below...

-
The building or buildings, other than the main dwelling does not cover more than 50% of the curtilage.

-
The building (or any part of) is not positioned forward of the principal elevation of the main dwelling.

-
The roof height does not exceed 4m for a gable roof or 3m for a mono pitch roof.
-
If within 2m of any boundary, the total roof height must not exceed 2.5m.

The Caravan Act has a different set of regulations and car mean a reduced rated of 5% VAT or 0% in some cases.

You will be pleased to know that as well as bespoke builds we have multiple cabin options that comply with both the Caravan Act and Permitted development.

Planning Treehouse's
Unfortunately for most treehouses you will need planning permission and how successful you are will depend on many factors, but a good design, using sustainable materials and tree friendly hardware will help add to a strong positive application.

A good place to start would be to research your local authorities planning policies to ascertain which may affect your particular project even before you get round to dreaming up a design.
Yawn……I know boring, but it really does help to do your research or to quote a famous tree house builder “you can always ask for forgiveness instead of permission” Not that we would recommend that of course!

We can help with all the above, so please get in touch and hit the enquire now button below to start your dream escape!
